Enter a unique environment to celebrate that special occasion, hold a networking event, launch a new book or product,
or entertain conference guests at dinner.
The main pavilion accommodates 600 seated or 800 standing amongst steam and diesel locomotives of the past and
elegant railway carriages representing train travel long gone.
For more intimate events a 1930s dining carriage seats groups of up to 48. Enjoy pre dinner drinks in the adjacent
lounge carriage built in Germany in 1952.
A wedding reception at the Museum will provide an experience unlike any other venue in Adelaide.
Photographic opportunities abound for Weddings, Modelling Assignments, Art Students, Product Releases, Promotions, and the like.
The Museum has links with several professional caterers to suit your budget and theme.
Alternatively event organisers are welcome to use their own caterers if they prefer. The museum can also arrange
audio visual systems to suit your needs.
MAIN PAVILION
The National Railway Museum's Main Pavilion houses a variety of steam and diesel locomotives and elegant timber railway carriages representing romantic train travel from an era long past.
Features include:
- With the relocation of some exhibits an area suitable for your event is created to accommodate up to 600 seated or 800 standing
- The 'break of gauge' platform becomes a functional stage with full PA facilities
- A dance floor can be hired and there is ample power to meet the requirements of a DJ or band
- The hirer is welcome to decorate the event area to suit the theme of the event
- During the winter months it is recommended that gas heaters be hired
- Guests are free to wander through the Museum to view the extensive and varied range of railway
vehicles and interpretive displays
- Guided tours can be arranged through exhibits that are normally closed to the public and carriages under
restoration revealing the coach builders' art
- Large clean toilet facilities including those for the disabled
- Three phase power for caterer
- For event organisers who really want to impress, guests can be taken on a train ride around the museum
- As an added highlight, bring your guests from the Adelaide Railway Station right into the Museum
with your own train hired from TransAdelaide

DINING CAR AND LOUNGE CAR
This timber paneled dining car was built for the Commonwealth Railways in 1930 and was used extensively on
the Trans-Australian Railway Express between Port Augusta and Kalgoorlie. The lounge car was built in 1950
by Wegmann of Germany, also for the Commonwealth Railways, and is of all steel construction.
Features include:
- Pre event/dinner drinks in the lounge car followed by dinner in the dining car with your choice of caterer
- Entertainment of your choice
- Ideal for private dinners, sales presentations of new products and services to small groups, or corporate networking
- Deliver training workshops incorporating the adjacent Budd railcar as a theatre

CAFETERIA CAR
Built in 1947 at the South Australian Railways Islington Workshops, the Cafeteria Car was initially
used on the East-West Express between Adelaide and Port Pirie.
When booked for an after hours party, use of the Cafeteria Car includes:
- Air conditioned, milk bar style seating, and themed decor from an era representing rock and roll, swirling skirts, slicked hair, and milk shakes
- Central servery contains fridge, pie warmer, kettle, and microwave
- An adjacent outdoor area with seating for 40-50 or for use as a dance floor is also available for hire
